September is traditionally a 'slow' for tourism to Phuket which means it's a great month for bargain hunters and value conscious tourists to visit with lots of great deals and excellent value for money on offer (see the sidebar - save money for more details). September see Phuket celebrating its annual Por Tor Festival (an ancestor's festival for ethnic Chinese that falls on the seventh lunar month of the Chinese calendar with special foods, flowers and candles presented to the ancestor's altar). As well there are several surf events including Rip Curl Grom Search Thailand 2010, Sep 04 and Sep 18, Phuket Surf Lifesaving Carnival on Patong Beach, Sep 11 and Quicksilver's Thailand International Surf and Music Festival, Sep 22 - 26 on Kata Beach.
