Just south of Karon Beach are the two beaches of Kata; Kata Yai
(big Kata) and Kata Noi (small Kata). For our purposes we combine
the two and refer to the area in its entirety as Kata Beach. Whilst
a small out crop of land distinctly separates Karon Beach from Kata
Beach the difference is much harder to discern when driving between
the two areas.
The same goes for the difference between Kata Yai and Kata Noi.
Kata itself is a pleasant town with just enough shops and restaurants
to make it interesting but not so many as to be crowded. That said
if you want the hectic beach scene and nightlife you will not find
it in Kata.
Both Kata beaches have beautiful white sand and calm clear turquoise
water making Kata Beach one of Phuket's better swimming beaches
and with the Pu Island just offshore Kata (especially Kata Yai)
is perhaps the most scenic beach on the southwestern coast of Phuket.
FYI, in order to remain objective, hotels are listed in alphabetical
order. We don't favor any hotel for any reason.
